Asterix Volume 17: The Mansions of the Gods

The Mansions of the Gods is volume 17 of the Asterix series by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. Julius Caesar attempts a new strategy for bringing the Gauls under Roman influence: instead of direct confrontation, a luxury development is planned beside their village. The project tests the villagers’ independence by changing the world around them and tempting them with new comforts.

The story offers a comic take on urbanisation, consumer culture and social change, using exaggerated situations and memorable characters to explore how a community responds to outside pressure. Asterix and Obelix must find a way to protect their village from a scheme that works through persuasion as much as force. The illustrations and dialogue create humour while making the underlying conflict easy to follow.

This English-language paperback is volume 17 of the classic Asterix series, published by Hachette India. It may interest readers who enjoy comic adventures with satire, families sharing illustrated stories and fans collecting individual Asterix volumes.
